Hi, I'm Fi.  I had my first tongue biopsy yesterday – a lesion of about 2 cms long removed and stitched. I had no idea I had a mass- it was picked up in routine dentist check up. I didn’t have an ulcer or any sore place at all, somehow just some extra tissue had appeared and I hadn’t noticed.  My consultant has never seen something presenting like this so wanted to remove it all as although he doesn’t think it cancerous, he’s no idea what else it might be, how long it’s been there or how fast changing it might be. Nervous because he doesn’t seem to know what else it might be.
I’m now waiting about 3 weeks for pathology results.

  • Hi and welcome ,the first thing i knew about mine was when my lymph glands were swollen a routine check at the doctors turned into a journey i did not want to go on ,after a visit to ENT i had an appointment for a biopsy within a few days the outcome was a squamous cell carcinoma about 2.5 cm in size .While i was waiting for the biopsy results i went on holiday for 2 weeks and by the time i came back the results were in after that it was all go .I hope yours is not something sinister just try and keep busy and dont go on google there is a lot of false info out there .Let us know how you go on the people on here are very supportive good luck .

  • Hi Fi, the dentist found a lump in my neck, which turned out to be tonsil cancer. Hopefully yours will turn out to be nothing to worry about. However, if it was cancer be assured that head and neck cancers are very curable, I'm over 8 years post treatment still here alive and kicking, as many are on this site. Let us know how you get on, we're all here to help if we can.

    Ray.
