Hi my name is Geoff, I had my operation last Nov.’25. I’m on a feeding tube not being able to swallow. I am waiting for a videofleuroscopy! They have told me I will probably need the tube for life, has anyone else been in same position.
I had tonsil cancer 14 years ago & had RT & Chemo. so I couldn’t have it again. But the RT has done a lot of damage they’ve told me.
Good evening Geoff, im in the same situation where i am reliant on my feeding tube(PEG) because I cannot swallow properly due to damage from RT and operations. I can, however i can swallow thin liquids like water, coffee, tea, etc. It does take quite a bit of time to adjust to not being able to eat normally, but using the PEG becomes quite simple after a few months once you get into a routine. The actual PEG is easy to maintain, and it will be explained to you by the dietitian or PEG nurse. The PEG nurse will also come and change the tube every few months. Mine has been in since 2009 and has not caused me any issues. Please feel free to contact me if you need further help. all the best.
