I have two more zaps to go on my neck after this weekend. My neck is itching like crazy!! Any suggestions for relief please.

  • Hi

Has the skin broken? Lots of folk here got flamigel during RT, that can help. I swore by aloe vera gel.

If the skin is in a bit of a mess as soon as you have finished the radiation Flamazine (contains silver so can't be used while you are getting treatment) is pretty good

  • I used oatmeal based creams...helped greatly...I ran it past radiotherapy first...got the cream on prescription.

  • Aveeno. Good stuff. I still use it.

  • I had an itchy neck too and found it really annoying. I used Flamigel, as advised by my radiotherapy team, along with Aveeno. My doctor also recommended over the counter antihistamines, but they didn't make much difference for me.

The team told me that an itchy neck is unfortunately quite normal at that stage of treatment. My neck became very red, some of it brown and started to peel. After the peeling stage, most of the itchiness stopped.

I'm now 9 days after finishing treatment, and the redness has almost completely gone.

  • I still get a maddeningly itchy neck from time to time over 5 years on due to the RT after effects - mainly from exposure to the sun.

For quick relief I’ve found that aqueous cream with 2.5% menthol is brilliant. I use a brand called Dermacool, but there are others.
