  • Eat all the things you like before the treatment starts.... taste and appetite can disappear for up to a year for some.. use this forum for advice and support... Google isn't a good place to seek advice ... make sure you have plenty of pain meds... keep your oncology team in the loop... let them know about any concerns you have... don't suffer in silence.

    Good luck.

  • Hey. I just started my treatment on Monday for base of tongue and nodes. 6 weeks radiotherapy and weekly chemo. Hope goes well for you

  • Hi Purky welcome to the group. It's good that you are having a PEG, it will take the worry away if eating becomes difficult during your treatment and recovery. Once you get into the daily treatment routine you will feel better about it all, just take it one day at a time, and always keep your team up to date about any side effects you may get, they will give you something for them. Be assured the treatment does give very high rates of cure, the members of this forum are living proof of that. Stick with us, ask any questions you have someone will answer if they can, we are all here to help you.

  • Hi and welcome ,Discuss your pain relief with your SCN asap to make sure its in place when you need it i went from paracetemol to morphine in a fairly short period of time and i never really got on top of it which made all that was going on seem much worse .Get some bicarbonate of soda i found that bicarb and salt mouthwash was best for relief of mouth ulcers and sore throats ,try find something that will take your mind off things i found colouring books helped me to concentrate on something else .Make a daily checklist so you can tick off all the things you need to do ie like taking medication ,cleaning teeth ,etc .Reach out to us anytime good luck .
