Hi all ,been on here a few weeks now , reading everyone's posts. Wrote a long bio on how I've got to this point. But long story short after being misdiagnosed for months , ive now been diagnosed with t4a hpv+.

Absolutely devastated.  Surgery isn't an option as cant get a clear margin in area apparently.  So chemo and radiotherapy  is planned.

I was finally diagnosed  on 14th January, from mri and ct scans, referral sent to oncologist.biopsy  result on 28th  confirmed Hpv+. Symptoms started end of May last year 2025.

Had urgent referral  to oncologist  but now I feel I'm in no mans land. Waiting  and worrying.  Weights dropping off me lost 6lbs in 5 days  with anxiety. Lost appetite. Can't sleep All these years I've tried loose weight now I'm desperate keep it on .

Haven't a clue what to expect. Just want to see oncologist and start treatment.  Worrying that as time passes the tumour is spreading.

  • Hi Lotty. Welcome but so sorry to see you here.
First step back and breathe. There are plenty of folk here diagnosed T4 who have got through CRT and are well.
HPV positive cancer responds really well to radiation and cure rates are in excess of 90%

I had  cancer in the base of my tongue which was inoperable and here I am seven years on.
Stay with us. There is always somebody to talk to. Do t talk with Google. Ask your team and all of us here.

  • Thanks so much .I've googled myself into such a state . Looking for reassurance but just feeding the fear.

You never image it could happen to you ,cancer.

I really thought that once diagnosed  ,youd receive a call from a specialist nurse , for support.  But I feel cut off . No longer under ent ,and waiting for an oncologist  appointment.  I know there must be a lot preparation  for each one of us behind the scenes before hand . In desperation I called my gp  yesterday  to ask for help as not sleeping or eating. Seeing him on Monday.

  • Hi Tracy Take a deep breath and please keep off Dr Google the stats on their at best are 5 years out of date and at worst are generic which includes all HNC cancers so ignore those.

HPV head and neck cancers respond extremely well to treatment keep that at forefront of yiur mind. Plus head and neck cancers are staged differently to others cancers T4 doesn’t mean the same as stage 4 in other cancers T4 equates to size if your tumour 4-6 cms I was T2 which was tumour size 2-4 cms. Treatments hard i can’t  lie but it’s doable. The waiting’s the worst part. I’m 7 years post chemo radiotherapy for tonsil cancer HPV with 7 affected lymph nodes . Am living a fab life there’s lots of us on here that are still ado7md helping others.
ask any questions on her nothing is too daft to ask

mjne want operable the gold standard treatment is chemo radiotherapy or just radiotherapy it works

  • From diagnosis to treatment starting it took 5 weeks the first thing was to order a RIG or feeding tube which goes direct into your stomach so you can take in liquid food because you probably not be able to swallow if they dont offer you one ask because it will save your life .i had loads of phone calls from all the people who were going to be involved with the treatment there is a lot to organise and it will soon pass they will also do another scan to make sure the cancer hasnt spread .You are bound to be worried i found just carrying on as normal helped have a few glasses of vino and chill out best you can .Once you start treatment you will not be able to do things you could do before ,i even went on holiday for a couple of weeks .
