Hello everyone. I went to my doctors in June 2025 with what looked like a bee sting or an insect bite that wouldnt heal. 

6th July Referred to Dermatology dept at Salford Royal Hospital where they said I would need an excision biopsy and referred me.

17th July Excision biopsy carried out at Rochdale Infirmary under local anaesthetic.

5th Sept Back to Salford royal hospital for biopsy results where I was informed "It was a poorly differentiated squamous cell carcinoma but we think we've removed it all" However I informed them that a lump had grown at the bottom of the 75mm scar. So referred for another biopsy.

12th Sept Altrincham Health Hub. Punch biopsy carried out antibiotics prescribed  3 stitches applied.

23 Sept My GP surgery to have stitches removed but nurse said that it grown over with "something"

27th Sept Salford royal Dermatology for results. SCC has reoccurred near site of original tumour. Referred to Max Fax team at Manchester Royal Infirmary.

2nd Oct Salford royal CT Scan carried out head to pelvis.

18 Oct Manchester Royal Max Fax consultant recommended a more detailed MRI scan of affected area as it seems aggressive and lymph nodes feel swollen.

26 Oct Trafford General Hospital MRI scan done.

30 Oct Manchester Royal  Results of MRI scan show that SCC has spread to neck muscle underneath skin lesion and travelled to saliva gland and 2 lymph nodes in neck.

21st Nov Surgery carried out all on right side of neck. Original lesion removed, part of neck muscle removed, Saliva gland removed, 2 x lymph nodes removed and 4 teeth (in case i need radiotherapy) dermal fat taken from abdomen to  pack out where Saliva gland was removed. 5 day stay in hospital.

27th Nov stitches removed from front of ear area where Saliva gland was removed

.5th Dec District Nurse to have 30 staples / clips from surgery removed. The nurse noticed a slight leak from one of the wounds and applied a dressing.

8th Dec GP Surgery Leak on neck wound has got worse Swab taken wound cleaned, dressed and antibiotics prescribed.

10th Dec Manchester Royal Abdomen wound has developed a haematoma that has spread quite far. Wound partially reopened and "hoovered out" neck wound cleaned and dressed.

12th Dec Manchester Royal neck wound cleaned and dressed.

15th Dec Manchester Royal neck wound cleaned and dressed and advised further surgery will be required.

17th Dec Manchester Royal Surgery carried out debridement of neck wound and local flap reconstruction. Stayed in for 4 days.

18th Dec results of biopsies from Original November surgery given. All cancer removed but advised radiotherapy to be undertaken to mop up any particles that may remain.

30th Dec Christies Consultation with radiotherapy oncologist to discuss treatment and possible side effects.

2/3/4 Jan Manchester Royal ongoing problems with a slight leak on neck wound cleaned, packed and dressed.

5th Jan Christies Custom made Radiotherapy mask and CT Simulator. Advised it will be 5 days a week for 6 weeks.

6th Jan Manchester Royal  all remaining stitches removed, wounds cleaned and dressed.

8th Jan Manchester Royal check up on wounds reveal a wound needs a few stitches to close it under local anaesthetic prior to radiotherapy.

9th Jan Manchester Royal wound closed with dissolvable stitches

12th Jan Manchester Royal check up on stitches, area cleaned and dressed.

16th Jan Manchester Royal check up on stitches reveal a few more stitches required prior to radiotherapy.

  • I also had a SCC, but on the bridge of my nose. Resulted in a 20 hour operation,  due to complications,  and the removed and reconstruction of my nose.  I found/am finding, the Radiotherapy and consequent side effects difficult.  I finished Radiotherapy 2 months ago so things are settling down each day. T treatment feels relentless.  Mine was 5 days a week for 6 weeks, but you have to concentrate on the positives. I am now cancer free and spending precious time with family and friends.
