Hello everyone.
I am new here, I’m a 32 year old woman, normally very fit and healthy. Began sore throat symptoms in July, went to 4 different healthcare professionals in this time, was given antibiotics for suspected tonsillitis and also was told “you’ve burnt your mouth just don’t have anything Citric for a few days” fast forward to September, I finally managed to get a GP appointment, straight away they referred me for urgent 2ww. Went to see consultant who done nasal endoscopy and stated they could see the swollen tonsil and took some samples of the tonsil there and then with scissors. I then in the mean time started having severe chest pain, I went to a&e who stated it might be linked to my tonsil and to allow time. A month later I had my “results” only to be told they couldn’t test the samples fully as it wasn’t strong enough. I’ve now been booked in for removal of tonsil and biopsy but not sure when that is only have pre op 3rd December. I have also been back to A&E since as I know have severe pain in ribs, so I actually had a CT scan today. I am concerned as I know I have high risk HPV as my smear in May showed this. I’m just wondering what everyone else’s wait time was for results and to start treatment?
Hoping for a miracle as the waiting is draining me.
x
Hi Meg. That is so frustrating for you all the messing around with no definite answer yet. My experience was different as I had jaw cancer which was not HPV related but I know there are many others on this forum who had similar experiences and had some waiting times too. I am sure someone will come on the forum soon and give you some more info. I realise that you don't have a diagnosis yet but if you do get a diagnosis of cancer the good news is that HPV head and neck cancer responds very well to treatment and has a good success rate. In the meantime keep busy so you don't dwell too much on things. I know easier said than done. Once you get an answer things will be much easier.
Sending you my very best wishes
Lyn

Hi Meg
I'm not a doctor but your chest pain may well be linked to anxiety over your throat. I hope your CT comes back clear. When will you know?
It's rubbish this waiting but I think you are being made to wait too long. Get back to the hospital and tell them you can take any cancellation at a moment's notice so that meanwhile you can have your pre-op sooner, after all it's only blood test ECG and an MRSA swab
As for the HPV. Cervical and oropharyngeal HPV are not linked so you can relax on that point
Let us know how you get on and when your surgery is scheduled
Hugs

Base of tongue cancer. T2N0M0 6 weeks Radiotherapy finished January 2019
Difficult and very stressful time, I had biopsies done at my first ENT appointment, the team were 100% sure it was cancer, which it was, HPV16+ tonsil cancer, things moved quickly all tests/scans done, dental work then Chemoradiotherapy...6 weeks from diagnosis to treatment start...then the hard work started...results were good.

I have had the A&E consultant call me today to confirm he has found something in my breast so I’ve now got an urgent 2WW for the breast clinic aswell!
