Hello to you all.
So the first steps I took today at Manchester Royal Infirmary. I met with the head and neck consultant. He told me the carcinoma in my Trachea is really quite small. The treatment is going to start next week with a visit to the Radiotherapy team at the Christie. He is hopefull that I can take the Radiotherapy without the need of a tracheostomy. However because the treatment can affect the mouth and gums I have had to have 2 teeth removed at the Manchester University Dental hospital. That was also done this afternoon. Tomorrow I have a CTscan booked on my Thorax. Then it's off to the Christie for 5 or six weeks. It should make for an interesting Christmas.
Yeah normal to lose a couple of teeth, to prevent infection. Get a PEG fitted, so you can get nutrition. The mouth ulceration will hurt a bit, so get 30mg dispersable cocodamel and some oramorph and feel free to take them. If you feel that you have a slightly ‘sunburned’ feeling neck, get a prescription for a cream from your consultant pronto, try not to worry about it because it goes.
Thanks for that the Dentist I saw has asked my GP to prescribe some special toothpaste.
Glad you're on the pathway to treatment.
Be prepared for the GP not to prescribe the toothpaste (probably Duraphat 5000). Most areas require your dentist to prescribe the toothpaste. That can be difficult in these times of few NHS dentists. If you have a problem go back to the dental consultant to see if they can help.
Hi there’s a protocol to go through teeth checked mask made then you’ll have another scan. Then the technicians will do a personalised plan . Then a space will be allocated for your sessions. The toothpaste should like Peter says be issued by dentists the go used issue then when I first got mine. It’s all about whose budget pays for it.
Treatment can be challenging but take it one day at a time.
