Enlarged lymph nodes in neck and supraclavicular - awaiting diagnosis

Hi All. I'm new here and feeling very anxious. Having had slightly enlarged lymphnodes in my neck and above my collar bone on both sides, my GP made a 14 day referral for "suspected head/neck cancer". I saw the consultant 16 days later who said the back of my nose/tongue and throat seemed ok. He referred me for an ultrasound scan with guided biopsy if suspicious. I've been feeling the lymph nodes for several weeks, but as my partner had just been diagnosed with high grade bladder cancer, I tried to ignore the changes. He's now completed his first 6 weeks of immunotherapy and is doing well.  The nodes are fairly soft and mobile, and I'm wondering whether it could be lymphoma (which my father died of 40 years ago) or symptomatic of something else. I'm afraid I started asking Dr Google, which seemed to suggest endless possibilities! My appointment is still nearly two weeks away, and the last few weeks have seemd endless.

I'm 73 and generally in excellent health and fit for my age. I'm fearful of what to expect.

I'd be grateful for any advice and the benefit of other people's expereiences.

Many thanks,

Nettm

  • Hi

The old adage works well…. You don’t know till you do. All yiu can do is keep busy doing the things you enjoy. I know you will worry but everything is out of your control for now.
Cancerous neck nodes tend to be firm so fingers crossed this is something else.
Meanwhile stay away from Google now. You’ve already found it’s full of rabbit holes.
Best of luck for your appointment Hugs
