Sorry me again, we have an appointment with a GP on Monday as my mum’s pain after radiotherapy is not improving and really getting her down.

Currently she’s on liquid paracetamol (500mg) Oramorph (5ml as and when) Pregablin and she has the mouth washes (can’t remember the name)

Does anyone have experience with other meds that we can research or suggest?

  • I was put on Oxycodone, very very effective painkiller.

  • I had long acting morphine twice a day on top of oramorph and paracetamol. Some people have patches which slow release either Fentanyl or Buprenorphine

  • MST...morphine sulphate slow release tablets twice daily, and I was taking 10 mls of oramorph for a short time.

  • Hi Kate,

The prescribed Oromorph I was on for pain management made me feel sick, and the liquid parcetamol was hard to take and i didnt feel much benifit, so I tried soluable paracetamol from the chemists and used it regularly morning, afternoon and evening and this helped me get me through the regular pain of trying to eat.

    Hope this is useful.

  • Slow release patches are good for keeping up a background level of pain relief then using paracetamol and/or an opioid pain killer.  I was on Oxycodone at quite high doses post treatment for a few weeks.  Coming off opioids can be a real problem so watch that.

  • Me too. Very effective

  • I too was prescribed slow release morphine tablets which, alongside the 24/7 paracetamol and ibuprofen kept the pain manageable. The pain never completely disappeared but became bearable with the additional morphine tabs.

  • I was on two slow release oxycodone and I also had regular release 5mg oxycodine to take in between if needed.  I didnt use them.  I also had a mouth numbing liquid that is nicknamed Pink Lady.  It has lidocaine. I used a near infrared light too.  That helped.
