Sugery September and October 2024
Finished my Radiotherapy in February
Pet CT scan all Fine and Oncologist has given me 95 % Chance of Cure so obviously I was over the moon - Referred back to ENT for follow up and Surveillance
Had my First Appt back in Ent Today , Camera Down and Examination of my Neck , No coconcerns at all but I was a bit taken aback by needing to be seen every 6 Weeks. Just wondered what anyone elses Experience is with Initial Follow up in First Year .
Every six weeks first year
Eight weeks second
Twelve weeks third and fourth
Six months last year
These are the U.K. guidelines
Recommendations
• Patients should be followed up to a minimum of five years with a prolonged follow-up for selected patients.
• Patients should be followed up at least two monthly in the first two years and three to six monthly in the subsequent years.
• Patients should be seen in dedicated multidisciplinary head and neck oncology clinics.

I've transitioned from having appointments every six weeks to every eight weeks since I've just passed the one-year mark post-treatment. My next appointment is tomorrow. I tend to feel anxious during the week leading up to it, worried about the possibility of a recurrence. However, I'm very thankful for the regular check-ups, as they allow me to relax until the next appointment approaches. It's good to know everything is going well for you too.
Hi. I can also reassure you. I was treated back in 2013 and I've just checked my notebook to make sure I've remembered the timings correctly. Mine was Year one - Monthly for 6 months, followed by 2 monthly for 6 months.
Pleased to hear you're making such good progress.
Two and a half years after finishing treatment (at Guy's) I'm down to six-monthly checkups. My oncologist said they are finding that most recurrences are spotted by patients, not at checkups, so he is doing phone follow ups instead. However I still get seen in person by ENT consultant - which I always find reassuring.
September 2022 aged 63 diagnosed with HPV associated SCC base of tongue T4 N2 M0. Chemo & radiotherapy for 6 weeks ending Nov 2022. Now over 2 years all clear. See my profile for longer story
My oncologist said they are finding that most recurrences are spotted by patients, not at checkups,
Which is the rationale behind the PETNECK2 TRIAL

Every 3 months for me. Two surgeries and RT which ended in December last year. Camera into the throat at each checkup. I haven’t had any scans as such, not yet anyway
