Hello my husbands got tonsil cancer which spread to the lymph nodes in his neck . On Friday 16 July he finished 7 weeks of radiotherapy ( 3 chemos ) . His still eating a little and drinking , hasn’t used his stomach rig yet
.this week has got a lot harder for him , pain wise and he’s sleeping a lot . His had enough and finding it hard
.has anyone got any advice on when he will start to feel better please ?
Hi Lulah. Welcome to our little community and well done Mr Lulah or getting through his CRT
Everybody’s recovery is different and he’s done really well to keep up enough oral intake to avoid using his RIG.
Radiation peaks at around 2/3 weeks after treatment end so he has a way to go.
For most of us we seem to be feeling a bit better by six weeks and turn a corner twelve. By six months he should be feeling more like his old self and be eating well. Taste and appetite take a lot longer. Recovery is slow but sure with steps back as well as forward.
How are you feeling Lulah?

Get that RIG used for a couple of weeks. The better his nutrition the quicker he will heal.
Let him sleep. I slept for two weeks after treatment end. It’s the worst time.

, it’s hard not being able to take the pain away
I know how you feel but I’m sure your husband wouldn’t want you to. You have your own pain to deal with. Carers do have it tough. There are a few ladies here looking after their husbands. I’m sure they will be along shortly to help you along
As for going away as long as you are here in the U.K. and not far from home you should be ok.

Hi
It does seem like the pain and associated lows will never end, but they do, took about 10 weeks to ease off for me.
Holiday is a good idea, my wife had a holiday booked for us to Cyprus, which I managed and really enjoyed, we both needed the break, it gave me a target to aim for.

Stage 3 tonsil cancer, 30 radiotherapy and 6 chemo,
We travelled abroad 4 months after conclusion of CRT, feeding tube had been removed, I was eating medium sized meals.
CNS happily gave the go ahead for fit to travel, GP confirmed this and emailed me a fit to fly certificate. Insurance (hefty) and GHIC obtained.
Your husband seems to be further forward than I was.
