My husband was diagnosed with secondary neck and throat cancer with no sign of primary. His journey has been a long one and he has terrible tinnitus in his left ear. Can anyone help with suggestions as to how I can help him to relieve his pain?
Hi Toucan and welcome. How long ago did your husband's treatment end?
Tinnitus caused by cisplatin can get better but is often permanent, I'm afraid.
Might an appointment with a tinnitus specialist be useful? Your husband's ENT will be able to suggest one but he will probably have to pay privately. Mechanical masking is something to explore and management techniques but they need to be learned
It's a dreadful thing to put up with but he needn't suffer

Toucan. Hi. My first chemo gave me tinnitus almost immediately after the treatment. They changed to a different one after that. My tinitus is in both ears and both ears have been affected with hearing. Hearing aids really help my tinnitus during the daytime. I'm using NHS ones and I'm happy with them. The Macmillan team referred me to the hospital for hearing tests.
