I am male and quite old…more than 70 … and I have just ( nine days ago)completed 30 days of radiotherapy, following surgery, for some cancer in a tonsil and a few lymph nodes. I had two rounds of surgery, by choice - I had been offered that or chemo and more intense radiotherapy. I am told I do not need chemo. I would be happy to share any experience that may be useful to others on this ‘journey’.  I was very happy with the choice I made.

  • Dear Hazel- thankyou. I am very new to this, and still rather fatigued from the very recent radiotherapy (finished a week ago after 30 days). You know! You have clearly done very well. It is quite a revelation to discover this online world of ‘fellow ‘travellers ‘. Thank you again. Best wishes. Grorgeiv

  • You're very welcome sir, or should that be your Royal Highness?  Crown

Just kidding George, and I'm not surprised you're fatigued, just a week post RT.  You're doing great to be posting at all.  All the very best for your recovery.

  • Hi a week is really early I slept a lot these first 2 weeks. Radiation fatigue can’t be ignored I took the route if my body needs sleep it had sleep. I became well known for my power naps of 20 minutes. Try a gentle walk round your garden or on the street each day doing a little further. Try to eat 2500 calories by any means and drink 2-3 litres of water..yes we’re a small tight knit community who woukd never have met if cancer hadn’t brought us together.

  • Hello again George…we spoke on another thread.

Er…70 is not old….or even quite old!  I don’t feel any different now than I did in my 20s….it’s just my mirror which lies through its teeth and I’ve traded moisturiser for polyfilla……

All the  best from a fellow septuagenarian.  Also happy to share going forward.

  • That's right Liz, the only trouble with getting older is those odd aches and pains that spring out of nowhere sometimes. I am now 71 and same as you feel just as I did in my 20's but just with a lot more experience to help with life's ups and downs. Cancer also gives you a whole new perspective on life and make you realise that the day is for enjoying and less stressing.
