I have had multi nodule goiters (left and right) for several years. Was even part of Elation Trial many years ago. Had lots of probing over the years but always ultrasounds. A few months ago I had a very bad Throat virus and  breathing problems (at night). I got over it, scary but a few weeks of no sleep and changing pillows (4 times) I thought I was OK again.

Went for pill review (BP) and mentioned to Dr what I had been through. She felt my neck and referred me for an ultrasound just to check. I have had many of these over the years and all have come back benign. Only when I got there I was down for a CT scan with dye. My co sultant had requested it.

That was two weeks ago and yesterday Friday I had a phone call asking me to see the consultant on Monday morning. I am petrified.

  • Only a small percentage of goitre nodules are cancerous, no point in worrying, probably routine, try to keep occupied.

  • Hi

    Welcome to our little community

That was two weeks ago and yesterday Friday I had a phone call asking me to see the consultant on Monday morning. I am petrified.

You are bound to be scared but all you can do is keep occupied with things you like to do, get out into the fresh air and do something outside. Fingers crossed there isn't much wrong but if you need us there are lots of folk here to talk to.

    Good luck

  • Thank you for your support. After a rough weekend (emotionally) I saw the ENT consultant. Goiters have enlarged and some deviation to windpipe and esophagus but no Cancer present. However the CT scan showed what they think is a benign lump in the brain lining behind my forehead near sinus? My mind was blur with what I was being told. I now have to wait for MRI to investigate this.

  • Hi  - I can well understand why the above might have felt like a real whirlwind combination of relief and WTF.

We love the word "benign", right? Did they say why they think it's benign? I know it may be so tough to remember too much beyond "no cancer present" and "benign lump".

  • ENT consultant said he thought it was a meningioma lesion in brain lining in front lobe? The MRI has now been booked for Friday 13th to investigate. Then I will be contacted by Neurology?

  • Hi

There is a meningioma section in Macmillan you could look in but it's not very busy. Being benign and slow growing lots of people are on watch and wait which is probably why so few post. It's HERE if you want to look in

There is also some info  HERE

  • Hi - sending you strength and hugs - a tough time to say the least- and to digest.

Hoping for the best results from your scan - for us all it’s the wait and not knowing.

I had a op yesterday for biopsies in my throat and mouth , after a petct scan a short while ago showed still some cancerous things going on - my follow up is on the 27th - as I’ve gone through chemo & radiotherapy, finished 5 months ago - my journey continues and I’m hopeful there will be a plan for my next stage of treatment.

I can so appreciate the blur In the mind and the struggle to process it - but from one who shares and understands a little on how you may be feeling, try and take the positive that these are amazing people who are going to look after you and the wider family on here are ALL WAYS here to support and help.

    sending you strength and hugs

  • Only natural that you feel a tad dizzied by all this. But really good that they're not hanging about with the MRI, so that you can have more certainty sooner.
