  • Hi Netti. So sorry to hear of your husband's cancer diagnosis, this is a worrying time for you both. You will both get all the support you need from this forum. There are many people who have experienced something similar so understand what you are both going through. The majority of us have had radiotherapy and sometimes chemo as well as part of our treatment and had good outcomes. The treatment can be hard but worth it. My last radiotherapy finished in 2019 (I also had radiotherapy in 2013 on the other side of my face due to jaw cancer)  I am now living a very happy life so it is definitely doable. Stick with us as you will both get lots of practical support here.

    Best wishes

  • Hi Netti

sorry you’ve found yourself here radiotherapy is the main course of treatment for many so please try not ti worry . I wasn’t offered surgery as my cancer was not suitable for surgery. Chemotherapy oniy adds around 4% to the treatment success and I only had 2 if a planned 3 sessions. We’re all here to help you. Like Dani says remember to look after yourself you will take a lot if the strain and need to take time for you if only a coffee or a chat

  • Hi Netti. My husband finished 6 weeks of rt on Friday for tonsil cancer. He also had weekly chemo for 5 weeks. As others have said the treatment is extremely tough but doable. Take one day at a  time. This site is amazing  there is always someone here to offer advice and support.

  • Hi Netti.  Just to put my two penn'orth in love.

Six months ago my bloke was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer of the larynx.  At the time I thought, well that's that, and couldn't see beyond it.

Since then he's had a total laryngectomy, partial phanryngectomy, bilateral neck dissection with nodes removed and various other procedures.

When I first saw him in ICU he looked like Frankenstein's monster, but smiled broadly when he saw me!  He recently completed six weeks of RT and is doing ok, albeit with some side effects.

As his sole full time carer, I admit it's a tough call and support from his family is negigable.  But, as others have said, make sure you look after yourself as well as him, as you're the most important person in his life right now, moreso than the professionals.  Being on the front line is a big responsibility!

Stay here Netti as the vast majority of posters have been through similar and know what they're talking about.  I've found their advice and support invaluable and so glad I found them.

Sending you all hugs and love.
