Does hpv pos 16 metastasize to other areas

A post I just read is making me more scared now.  How common is this?

  • Lymph node spread is usually the presenting sign

Do you mean outside the lymph nodes?

HPV tonsil cancer has a 90% chance of cure. 10% can fail and metastasise distantly. Most distant spread is to the lungs

Of that 10% around 15% of that is to the bones.

Please just don't read that thread. Of all that small percentage they are there talking to each other. It's not surprising they have found each other.

  • All I know that the drs said in my husbands case, that it metastasized to his lymph node. So his cancer presented as a lump on his neck. Coming from his oropharynx to lymph node. Is that what you mean?

i just happened to come across that post and I wish I hadn’t

With oropharyngeal cancer there are two types of metastasis. Local (lymph nodes) and distant (somewhere else in the body)

I'm trying to tell you that spread to the lymph nodes is common and is usually the first sign that anything is wrong. It's still 90% curable

I know how anxious you are about this. It's doing you no good at all....every bit of your husband's prognosis is completely out of your control. Sticking to your own threads is safest

  • I’m sorry I don’t know what that means. Last scan mark had there was no sign of metastasis so I’m trying to hold onto that.

its discouraging Because initially I hear from the doctor that if you were to get any type of cancer this would be the one to have and then it has a high cure rate and that my husbands gonna live many years and then I hear the stories about metastasis and I’m getting a bunch of different information just like they told me that he may need a feeding tube because his throat will be sore they never said anything about him losing His taste the way that he has been they pretty much just said that his throat may be sore and he wouldn’t feel like eating. Now I have all this other stuff that’s going through my mind

  • I’m sorry I don’t know what that means.

What don't you understand? How can I make it clearer?

    I'll try

Metastasis means spread away from the original  cancer

Wasn't your husband's first symptom a swollen lymph node where they found HPV positive squamous cell carcinoma?

  • Listen to Beesuit. Some good advice right there. Losing taste with RT is perfectly normal.

  • Right. But distant is not    That’s what I worry about. If distant, it’s no longer hpv , correct?

  • I do listen to biscuit. My saving Grace so far Heart️

  • Yes that was his first symptom.

i guess it’s just the way it’s written. Sometimes I find the way things are written is hard for me to interpret correctly.
