I finished my radiation in June. Is there anything I can do for this?

"lymphedema, I have an therapist and the swelling is driving me crazy it’s in my face The exercise I do help, but is there anything I can do? Does anybody else feel anxious? Is that part of radiation?

  • Hi.  It took around 6 months post treatment for me to feel comfortable with my lymphoedema management.  I did (and still occasionally do) use a Comfiweave neck gaiter to help reduce the swelling.  Combined with massage that really helped me.  Nowadays I do find myself unconsciously massaging my neck and face.  It is second nature and maybe that is helping keep it at bay - along with the drainage channels finding new routes through the damage from the RT.

Now I have just accepted that this is part of post treatment life.  I don't allow it to worry me, but I now have a pretty laid back outlook on life; one of the hidden benefits of the treatment!

  • I massage my neck and jawline everyday as part of my moisturising routine, and use an Adams collar with exercises every other day.. I'm happy with my progress and I don't intend to let up as it is now just a part of my daily routine
