Were any of you current smokers when diagnosed and what was the outcome of your treatment.  Was it different from non smokers?

i ask because my husband was a smoker when diagnosed and has slipped a few times during his treatment.

It may be difficult to get a response to this one....cancer diagnosis usually results in patients giving up the habit...

I gave up more than 30 years ago...my wife developed asthma so for me it was a no-brainer...but I can understand the reasons for slipping....not an easy habit to kick

Oncology team would be in a better position to advise on treatment outcome?

  • I gave up ten years before I was diagnosed.
Smoking increases the severity of treatment side effects and if you keep smoking it increases the chances of another cancer.
As an ex smoker I know how hard it is to quit and I relapsed a few times.
You can get nicotine patches on the NHS. It’s worth a try.

  • He tells me he hasn’t smoked so I have to believe he is telling me the truth. I’m scared for these post treatment results.

Give him a hug. You’ll both get through. The scan will come and go.
Plan a short break away in the summer as a reward for both of you. Somewhere sunny and delicious.

  • Please try to stop worrying. There’s nothing you can do to change anything

You’ll make yourself ill with it all and your hubby needs you. If he says he hasn’t smoked believe him.

The scan will come and it will go  you can only then deal with the results trying to preempt them will not change them. Hnc respond well remember that.
