Hospital called on Xmas Eve, confirmed it is grade 2 tonsil cancer. I will get an appointment to see my new consultant sometime in January, then mask has to be made and my teeth checked then I will have 6 weeks of radiotherapy which probably won’t start till towards end of February.
i am worried about waiting this long as it could get a lot worse and spread to other parts of my body.
Has anyone else waited this long or is this a normal wait time?
Hope everyone has had a lovely Christmas X
Hi Julie. Try not to worry. I was two months from definitive diagnosis to start of RT. I was stage two just as you are. I’m coming up to my six years and fighting fit…. Just getting old.
Distant spread is not common. Neck lymph nodes are the first place it goes. I had my neck nodes zapped anyway, even though there was no spread on scans

Hi Julie
T2N1M0 HPV16+ tonsil cancer....finished chemoradio June 2023
I first went to my GP April 2021 with a swollen tonsil... misdiagnosed twice...February 2023 before ENT confirmed tonsil cancer...luckily the cancer had not massively spread...your timeline is probably the norm....good luck with the treatment...keep the forum updated with your progress.

Hello Julie
What bad news to get just before Christmas. If it's any comfort, my timeline was similar and my cancer was T4 but here I am two years on, absolutely fine. My oncologist said it's one of the worst cancers to get in terms of the treatment being tough, but one of the best in terms of treatment success rate (over 90%). By this time next year hopefully it will all seem like a bad dream. In the meantime, this forum is brilliant for info & support.
Sending you love, luck & solidarity,
Catriona

Hi
I got the same call 4 years ago on Christmas Eve. I had tonsillectomy beginning of Jan and chemo-radiotherapy started end of Feb.
I worried too about any delays, but it all worked out.
Just enjoyed a Christmas where I have barely thought about it.
Best wishes, the folks on here will be with you all the way.
Gill
