Hi, I have tongue and gum cancer.  Has anyone had it inside their upper lip area inside mouth - squamous carcinoma.m and what was done?  Just terrified now Cry

  • Hi again. I had a different t cancer and had radiotherapy for that. Hopefully   might pop on as she had something similar.

Have you had a chance to discuss treatment with your consultant?

  • Yes, I had that last year and I'm sorry you have it now.  It was in my lower left gum. Had a partial mandibulectomy and left neck dissection on 13th December, an 8 hour operation and a week in hospital. It was quite brutal, and I hated being fed via a nose tube. It all seems like a bad dream now though as recovery has been good. I have lost 5 lower left teeth and and my gum was replaced by my neck flap. I need surgery again soon as it is still too swollen to have teeth. Tomorrow, 11 months on, I have a scan to see how things are and fingers crossed no new cancer, I didn't need radiotherapy at the time as they were pretty sure they cut all the cancer out but not 100% sure so there has always been that little niggle that it may come back. I get the results on Thursday. Wishing you luck, just keep breathing and take it one day at a time. Please message me if you need to talk. Xx

  • Best of luck for Thursday xx

  • Hi Kos

I had jaw cancer similar to Cazzita and also have had a mandibulcectomy for my right lower jaw in 2013 plus radiotherapy. I also had 2 maxillectomies one in 2019 and one in 2022  for cancer in my upper jaw plus more radiotherapy. Everyone is different so what your surgeon's plan is may be different to what mine was. I have recovered well from these ops and am back to doing most of the things I was doing before with some slight differences. Once you have your treatment plan in place it will be easier for you. Early detection makes all the difference. Your team will be with you every step of the way and you will get great support from this forum. Let us know how you get on.

  • Just so scared, feel my mouth cancer has spread everywhere and it’s a end game Cry can’t face the diagnose or the treatment as it might be too late

Kos....I know it's hard and the worse bit is waiting for that diagnosis.

Have you had that scan and biopsy that you mentioned? Have you an appointment to discuss it?

Honestly there is so much that can be done these days and oral cancer is very curable

  • No just had my biopsy last week, feel so low

  • Maybe go to your GP to give you something to help you through the next couple of weeks? Do you know how many biopsies were taken?
