Hello all! I see this is based in the UK but I'm 'oer in the US/Wisconsin.. 56 and after CT, PET, 3 biopsies was diagnosed Stage 2 Squamous Cell Carcinoma in my soft back throat palate. I will be starting radiation 2X day for 7 wks... Got fitted for the groovy mask last wk, just waiting for the schedule.

Please note, I do have a sense of humor as you kind of have to. Thanks for having me!

  • I have a very silly question... (yes, sometimes questions are off the cuff silliness).. I was thinking.. Once I start my 2X Day Radiation zaps.. Was thinking if I should commemorate each day by perhaps picking a mere rock and I dunno... Label it 1, 2, etc... At the end of 30-31 days. Hmm... double zaps? 2 ea day? LOL! I'm laughing now.. Guess I'd have a bag of rocks!

Paint them? ....Green for good day....Amber average day....Red for not so good?  Gold for end of zapping?

  • Hi Happymonkie

Welcome to the forum. I live in Australia and could not find a support group where I lived at the time which is why I was so happy to find the Macmillan Head and Neck forum. I have been on the site for a few years now and in that time there is now a head and neck forum here but I still find I get the best support and advice from the lovely people on this forum. Everyone is so positive and it is great sharing with those who are in a similar position. I have had 3 ops and 2 lots of radiotherapy over the years for jaw cancer and am doing fine now and enjoying everyday of my life. Treatment can be tough but there is definitely light at the end of the tunnel.

    Best wishes

  • Hi guys!! Fri (Nov 1st), was 14 "Zaps" of 68.... TGIF has never felt so good.. Voted early and slept all day today.

I'm just freaking out on expectations. We all deal with ailments differently. I was told in the 2nd week it will get worse. It it inevitable? My awe Dr & nurses see me every Tu & Th..  My radiologist Jim is great. TG my hubby works there in the Internet Tech dept - over 17 yrs... Anyways.. Last wk both my nurse & Dr mentioned a feeding tube if I can't eat. I do drink Ensure Max Protein and can eat. I guess my question is,  is it going to be super bad! I just got an Rx for ointment for my neck...So far I'm okay there.. Have an Rx for Oxy I haven't touched.

Kinda freaked as to what the next month will entail. Dec 12th will be my last zap.. Thoughts? Could I sail thru like I feel today or buckle up? Lol...

~ I wish there was a live chat room...

  • * My Troy/husband ... Reason it's good as his head Mgr said if he needed to take me back & forth to appts, he doesn't have to clock out to get pay docked.. Also a great bonus is he knows everyone. I ride in with him @ 7am... He works 7-4.. Brings me home. My Mom grabs me for my 1:30
