I had the same experience before I was diagnosed.
Try not to worry about work .I phoned Mcmillan(s line for financial support as I was worried what would happen after sick pay ran out.
My Mum (75 at time) had to help me fill in ridiculously long PIP form and Job centre Coach on phone advised me to go on Employment Support Allowance (There is also Universal credit which seems to be a better option for some people).
Your local Cancer charity will also have people to help face to face or via the phone to fill in application and offer advise
Mcmillan also offer a free £200 grant to cancer patients who qualify (criteria on website)your Cancer Nurse Specialist(CNS) fills in the application for you. x

Try and keep that anxious brain busy do the things that you enjoy watch boxsets/ films etc
Get some fresh air if you can and eat lots your favourite foods x
But please stay off Google any questions ask this group , they helped me with every question I had and gave me invaluable advise. Nurses were amazed at my medication knowledge( thanks to Dani and Hazel.) .
