My mum is undergoing Rhinectomy surgery for SCC in less than 2 weeks, just wondering if there is any advice or information I can have to make this journey as smooth as possible for her.
information has been very vague and it’s been a roller coaster after misdiagnosis and other delays.
any advice would be appreciated
thanks
Hi BuzzyBee11
There is a long running thread here Nasal Squamous cell cancer
There hasn’t been a post fir a while but there are folk still answering questions.
You could post there.
There is also a good group called Head and Neck cancer support U.K. on a well known social media platform. There are quite a few people there who have undergone the same procedure.

I’ve done another search for you and there is mention of a Rhinectomy by a member six months ago. You could reply there directly to ellie who posted community.macmillan.org.uk/.../1901406

Hi, I'm guessing your mum has been and had her surgery now? I'm 4.5 years post paranasal sinus cancer SCC, surgery was scary, but overall physically I recovered fairly well. No feeling anymore in My right eye, eyebrow area, right cheek, right side of nose, right side of mouth, all numb, took me around a year and a half to fully start to get any sensation back, I now have tingling a d a burning sensation, but I've learnt to live with it, its not so bad. I sometimes in the early days feel like my face wasn't mine and I wanted to claw it off. My tumour was large so I actually felt better after as I could breathe for the first time in years. But psychologically I definitely feel like I have ptsd and at some point it will come back. My face looks OK, ive scars but they've faded and in the early days post surgery I found it hard to remember how to say words, even though I knew what I wanted to say, it was all a little jumbled up and confused. But prognosis good, the surgery although brutal is necessary as it cuts it all out. Hope all goes well and hope all clear after
