Hello everyone
New here, but been lurking for a couple of weeks. My story:
- 50, F, non smoker, non drinker
- noticed an ulcer on the side of my tongue back in around start of Oct
- mentioned it to dentist at my checkup mid Nov - he didn't think it was sinister, but referred me anyway
- saw Max Fax consultant Dec 8th, biopsy done, from his vibes I thought it was definitely something
- biopsy results Dec 12th - squamous cell carcinoma, however he said it was very early stage, likely caused by dental trauma
- MRI and CT scans on Xmas Eve
- unfortunately wait for sentinel node biopsy scan was too long and he didn't want to delay by another 3 weeks
- partial glossectomy on Weds 10th, day surgery
- consultant was hopeful that would have done the trick without any need for further treatment, however obviously got to wait for results
The whole process has fortunately been pretty quick, so I am still in some whirlwind other plane of existence I think!
Hi teee7
Welcome. Everything seems to be on target. Pity about the SNB but I’m sure they will keep an eye on you.
Has a PET/CT in a few months been offered?
My neighbour had practically the same scenario as you. The surgeon removed a little of her tongue with no need for any treatment and she is clear of cancer for 4 years now.
Best wishes xx
