Has anyone ever experience tinnitus (ringing in the ear) from chemo. If so what was the chemo and how long did it last. thanks
Hi I had 4 Cisplatin in 2020 and having ringing in my ears as I type this but to be honest with you I am sitting in a room with nothing turned on and it does not bother me as I listen to loud music which seems to help
Cisplatin also. The ringing came on after my 3rd dose and sadly I still have it 8 months post treatment. It doesn’t bother me as much as it did. If you’re only just experiencing it and are early on in chemo make sure you mention it to your consultant as they may change your chemo type to avoid damaging ears further. All depends on what drug you’re on though.
I've always had tinnitus a little bit, but after my first Cisplatin it got worse (including a rattle sound, like a cat collar bell when I move my head). My oncologist discussed changing to a different chemo drug for the 2nd round, but she said that Cisplatin is the gold standard. So, I decided that surviving was my priority. 8 months out, I still have some tinnitus. I have also lost a lot of my higher range hearing (I was tested before and after). I now have hearing aids.

I was on Cisplatin and due to have 5 or 6 rounds. Tinnitus started after first round but got pretty intense after the 2nd session. When I went in for 3rd round, oncologist decided to stop the chemo - that was end of July. It did ease. Finished RT on 1st Sep. I still have ringing and noticed it’s been fairly constant recently. Not awful like it was on treatment though. I try to do the fooling my brain that it’s not there thing… feels like a Jedi mind trick that I’ve not quite mastered yet!

Please tell your team. Tinnitus can be permanent and cisplatin can actually cause deafness
Are you still under treatment? Chemo is an add in adding 6% to cure. Lots of people don’t finish it and are ok
