  • Thankyou so much.   Hes having a feed peg fitted 11th and then going into velindra foa a week for intense chemo home two weeks they n back in for a week then gome 2 weeks then radiothdrapy for 6 to 6 weeks.   But the y are taking all his teeth out this friday.  Did anyone else have to have all teeth removed.  Its happened so quick we still in shock x

  • Hi again. I was treated at The singleton so not far from where your husband is going. Who is his oncologist?
I kept all my teeth luckily but extractions are common. Radiotherapy causes lifelong damage to the bone of the jaw which makes future extractions dangerous so if either or both teeth and bone density are not healthy its recommended to have extractions while it’s safe to do so. It’s awful but necessary.

That’s good. He will need it. It takes a week or two to settle so he may be in some discomfort afterwards. Pop back on here for advice if you need it.

  • Dr harris hes been seeing at gwent and cant remember name of dr at velindra.    Oh i get u - that makes a lot of sence.

  • Hi Cazza2190

So sorry to hear about your husbands recent diagnosis. It must be a terrible shock for you both.

Im nearly 5 weeks post 7weeks of daily radiotherapy and two overnight intensive Chemo sessions for T4 tonsil cancer spread in 3 lymph nodes.

My journey started in September when I was informed I would have to have 8teeth removed over two days with only local anaesthetic in preparation for Radiotherapy they said was due to low bone density,I was devastated then two weeks later I had to have PIG feeding tube op, two days later radiotherapy , then chemo .

Traumatic experiences…. but Im still here ..if I can get through the tough treatment regime then your husband definitely will …

Its not an easy journey… but an essential one ! to hopefuly batter this bloody awful cancer.

My teeth…. I dont even think about anymore My feeding peg has kept me alive thus far and so thankful I had it fitted.

Stay on the site ask any questions that you have these people are amazing always someone to support just when you need it the mostx

I wish you both strength and positive thoughts to conquer the gear of the unknown as he starts preparation for treatment xx

  • Hi debbie

Thankyou for ur kind words and i hope ur doing ok urself.

My husband has tonsil cancer stage 3 which has spread to  lymph nodes in neck but not past his bottom of neck.  But they say he as little nodules in lungs but not big enough to be suspicious..  I thHeartsnk the teeth part is the part that is getting to him the most to be honest butblike u said its essential as hes going to beat this.  Hugs to you Hearts

  • Thankyou so much.  Dont feel alone no more x

  • Hood news about the little nodules in lungs x

Its a horrible thing to have your teeth taken out especially if they are healthy teeth it doesnt make sense …. but its one of those bloody tough experiences( and traumas) some of us have to go through prior to the Radiotherapy and Chemo starting….The feeding peg will be a lifesaver especially after teeth removal.

Make sure he has some adequate pain relief ready for after teeth extraction and in preparation for PEG op.Expect lots of bleeding after teeth extraction I filled two medium bins with bloody tissues . Buscopan helped when i had pain after PEG op ( Hazel and Dani told me to take it into hospital glad i did) Bery painful first few days then uncomfortable till week 2 now sometimes forget its there x

I managed luke warm soup a few times after the dental work but that was about it.If he can manage it as him where possible to keep using his swallow for as long as he can by drinking or sipping water / warm drinks.

Take each day as it comes…1 at a time please tell him not to suffer in silence pain isnt good for our bodies to cope with.

Tell your Cancer Nirse Specialist or Radiotherapy team of any changes/ converns or worries make sure you have numbers and emails for key people.

I will be thinking of u both tomorrow x You can both do this xx
