Hi,after having bilateral lymph node dissection last week with operation going well, this Wednesday was admitted urgently to theatre with an infection causing neck to swell beyond comfort. Operation drained saliva fluid and I could eat without chocking, forward a day back to same scenario, theatre last night and drains again each side. On off the cuff remark has got me more worried as it was said I would be going back to theatre for a Picc line, neither myself nor nurse on ward knew about this. Consultant refused to come out to explain (it was late) …
it is now 6:30am and have sat worrying all night
Hi. Was chemotherapy mentioned?

Hi Was chemo mentioned like Dani said a? If your veins in hands are difficult to get cannulas in a pic line is a good alternative. I would want to know why before they do it. Know a few who did have pic line they were having a few different chemos or veins were difficult to acess.

Hi Hazel, no nothing was mentioned just one of the theatre staff off the cuff remark. Nurse in ward called Consultant and said he would see me first thing and explain.
Dani I read that Piccs are for chemo but no one has mentioned that to date!

I’m at a loss, then. It’s a pity nobody bothered to explain to you. Awful!
let us know what happens.
PS
the only thing I can think of is that as this is a recurrence your consultant has you down for chemoradiation but I fail to see why this hasn’t already been discussed.
