New diagnosis

Morning

Well yesterday, that was interesting although to be honest not that much of a shock. tongue cancer. The Consultant at Peterborough was really good explaining what's to come and the pending treatment journey. Nervous and a little apprehensive to be fair, but it's small and treatable so glad for small things. Most of the Family told yesterday, but  hard bit now is telling my son, he's last to know just by pure logistics.

So onwards and upwards, face the beast head on, kick it's ass and onwards.

Starts Sunday MRI scan.

  • Most of the Family told yesterday, but  hard bit now is telling my son,

Kids are pretty resilient. How old is he?

I had to tell my daughter in Berlin via zoom. She has health anxieties of her own but she coped marvellously. In the middle of treatment, haggard, with a nasogastric tube sneaking out of my nose through dishevelled hair, she told me I was beautiful. I shall never forget that and it broke my heart! Thank heavens for kids.

  • Hi there.

My husband had his diagnosis (base of tongue with several lymph nodes affected) back in August.

Its really hard explaining to the family - and we got help from Maggies cancer charity before talking to our grandkids (7 & 13).  Their advice gave us a lot of insight on how to approach the cancer subject with young ones.

Anyway a couple of months on - Dave starts his chemo & RT on Monday, so it’s all go here ….. we’re getting our heads round what seems like a pharmacy on our dressing table - he’s never had medication before so it seems like such a lot!!

I wish you well- and hope you’re able to start treatment soon.

    sending lots of love

    Dave & Ange x

  • Hi BL755

So sorry to hear about your diagnosis but like Dani said stay on the site to be honest I dont know how I would have got through last couple of mths without these amazing people ( my two personal angels Dani+Hazel) keep me grounded and hopeful xx

I told my two sons 18-26 two weeks ago I wrote them identical letters as my eldest has MH issues thought it would lessen the impact … my youngest had lots of questions which i answered honestly we all had some tears and hugs said I was going to look and feel terrible and it was a marathon not a sprint to recovery but also said Im going to come out of the other side.

Ive had pretty shit journey so far but that was the worst part … my youngest seems to be coping ok …. sadly my eldest is struggling but it was to be expected. Im telling my gorgeous granddaughter at the weekend that I have a lump in my throat which they need to treat with a special machine as its too tricky to remove not mentioning Cancer as shes too young to understand.

To be honest they are more resilient than I ever imagined and its such a relief not to carry the secret anymore.

Good luck with the MRI / surgery sounds like they caught it early .

So important. I wholeheartedly agree. The road is tough enough without having to carry somebody else’s grief.
