Hi, just reaching out to see if anyone had a simular diagnosis to me. Had surgery in March to remove the tumour and just finished 6 weeks of radiotherapy as a precaution to make sure all cells are gone as margins were small in surgery.
Really struggling now it's all done feel.so down and my mind is doing overtime. Mri in Oct to check which is worrying me already. No smell as smell nerve removed but also no taste at the moment hoping this will return.
Any reply would be so helpful as I feel I dont know myself anymore amd not sure I will ever feel me again.
Thanks
Tara
Hi Tazzer14
Welcome but so sorry to see you here.
I’ve found a previous thread for you. It’s a few years old but it might point you in the right direction It’s here
Olfactory Neuroblastoma stage 2
There are a couple of mentions of support groups that may still be active
Hope this is of some help
As you say, it’s rare and I can recall only a few posts here.
Waiting for post treatment scans is always an anxious time. We w all endured the worry so all I can suggest is you keep busy and avoid google.
Taste should return but it takes time. Try different foods and if they don’t work abandon them and try again at a later date. It’s a real pity about your loss of smell as that is a huge part of taste. Hopefully that will recover somewhat too
My RT was to my throat and it was six months before I could taste much and a year before I was happy with it but I’m over four years clear and practically back to normal.
You will feel you again. One day at a time. Small steps and you’ll get there.

PS
Have a read if this article about recovery, written by a psychologist involved with cancer care. It resonates with a lot of us.

Hi. Scanxiety is horrible. I remember feeling in limbo waiting to see if my treatment had worked. When I became very depressed I contacted Macmillan & I had 6 free phone counselling sessions. I found them very useful. I’m 17 months post treatment & as back to normal as possible. In the early weeks & months I felt that I’d completely lost myself & couldn’t envision ever feeling like myself again. But slowly, baby step by baby step I got there (& am still improving all the time). It’s a slow, frustrating road to recovery. Be patient with yourself & keep the faith.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
