Hi everyone, I am new to this group and hopefully it will help me with the million questions/worries that I no doubt will have over the coming weeks.

My hubby was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma of oral cavity at the end of June and has just had his first round of chemo on Friday. This whole thing is so overwhelming and its taking a while to get my head round everything.

The first problem he has encountered is constipation and i was wondering if anyone has any tips to help him with this. He was given tablets which he has had, but as yet, no effect.

Thanks x

  • Hello. I’m 15 months post treatment for tonsil & lymph node hpv 16+

I was prescribed Laxido sachets to help avoid constipation. Opiates cause problems & so daily sachets are necessary

  • Ok thanks for the info, I will ask about this to see if it helps.

  • Hi Bumpkin. Blod is spot on.
chemotherapy can cause constipation. Ask his team for some laxatives. We are usually given Movicol or Laxido. I took two daily as soon as I was on morphine and managed to stay regular.
Is your husband getting induction chemo before a course of radiation?

  • Hi Bumpkin. I am 9 days post treatment, chemo and radiation,

I was started on Ducolax 2tabs x twice daily, plus 15mg (2 tabs) Senna nightly when I was started on Co-codamol.

Hifiber liquid, up to 30mls daily was added when I started on MST. It took it all. And both my dietician & Consultant asked regarding it every week. Everything was taken on their advice. It's important to stay on top of it.

  • Hi has others have said laxido or movicol you can take  up to 6 sachets. Impacted poo isn’t pleasant chemo and radiotherapy can give you that if you’re not careful. I took one sachet every day some need 2. We’re all happy to help just ask.
