Hi to everyone,
I'm glad I stumbled across this I have been crying now for at 7 hours going out my mind.
My mum had problems swallowing last 6/7 weeks she got an app the other week at Dr and he sent her for an endoscopy, she had a CT on Monday just there.
She was up at hospital today to be told cancer and that she would need a PET scan to see if it's spread anywhere else. She has to take liquid food until further notice they did say it's treatable with radiotherapy and or chemo.
Just looking for some support or advice at this point because I'm so emotional.
I feel bad as today she was told and I didn't even react to it at the time just questioned a lot. Now I'm in bed uncontrollable sobbing , praying it's not spread , my mum doesn't keep well as it is her weights always been under and she has a spine condition that affects her walking.
My mum's actually been really good and said 1 day at a time I don't know how she's managing to stay strong at this point and here's me losing it
Hi your mums a string character I too was quite stoic when I got diagnosed which surprised my family and husband. I had 35 radiotherapy and 2 chemo treatments hard get her to pop in her we are a friendly bunch. Has HPV bern mentioned for your mums cancer? Trust in her team and take everything day by day. I was in your mums position 5 years ago I started treatment 14 July now almost 5 years post treatment.
Please stop crying head and neck cancers respond well to treatment. If she’s prone to loosing weight she will be better with feed g tube. My blog below might help put things into perspective. Mist tunes are out in at the start my trust did them when if required. Hugs Hazel x. Pet ct scan is normal so don’t stress too much. It gives oncologist a clear picture of what’s happening.

Been an absolute battle with the Dr receptions she got an app maybe 7 weeks ago and she was given lanzoprazoles and gaviscon didn't work swallowing got worse she had to fight to see drs again and then he sent her for tests I just hope everything going to be checked in time. Was told today that there are only 2 PET scanners in Scotland and be roughly 2 weeks.
My mum wouldn't come on this forum she can't work the internet she's not tech savvy at all. She's going to the local Macmillan centre Tomo to get registered for support so I thought me coming on here can share on behalf and chat too. I'm just trying to remain strong but tonight I've just broken down.
Thank you for your kind words and an ear x
The wait will not have an effect I was in Spain when I found my lump in neck came home 7 weeks later I thought I had pulled a muscle. From diagnosis to treatment starting it’s a well oiled machine things ti be done in an order I was 63 days many are longer so don’t worry about that a friend of mine was almost 5 months in waiting for radiotherapy machines. We all want everythjng to start straight aszy but planning etc can’t be rushed. Just go with the flow. Ensures will become her best friend. I still have the idf kbe even now.

Thanks for reassurance, she also needs to stop smoking asap she's not what I would say a heavy smoker 20 every 2 days but she will smoke with fear now,
I've managed to stop crying while having a gander over your blog , I'm just so stressed out.
My dad had a heart attack last year his life was saved and he got a stent then he had prostrate cancer and had 4 weeks radiotherapy. So we are not long over that and now bang my poor wee mammy.
I just want her to put some weight on to be strong she's always been about 7stone but think shes maybe dropped to 6 stone. Ensure drinks have always been her friend and she suffers from anemia from time to time
Hi get her to stop smoking asap as I am sure she won’t be able to smoke during treatment as her mouth won’t cope Get g p to prescribe patch’s to wean her i off she might need her cig guess for a few days but sooner she stops the better. Get her to put the money away for a treat.
my blig was my way if controlling what was an uncontrollable situation. Hope it helps Hazel x

From the outside it’s hard - I’ve been diagnosed recently, like you my wife has shed a few tears as have other family, I’m 63. Diagnosis is a very odd feeling yet as your in the middle it’s slightly easygoing deal with for me. You’ve been through this with your dad, as has your mum. Stay strong, really important for your mum to try and add weight and it may be her only comfort she must stop smoking … very best take a deep breath and be there to hold her hand
Thank you for your kind words , I feel so much better after crying we are just going with the flow now awaiting PET
Hey, I’m so sorry. It’s hard. I’m here in Scotland if that helps. The advice given here already is spot on. I was diagnosed April this year mine is P16 positive so possibly different from your Mum if smokes. My treatment will be different to hers. Cry as much as you need to, it’s not good to hold it in. As your Mum says, it is one day at a time, bit by bit. Stay strong, trust in the oncology team. Sending love ️
