Having been to ENT three times over the last year and a half I was finally given a tonsillectomy on 20/6.Unfortunately surgeon couldn't remove whole tonsil as it had grown on to my throat,I just can't take it in.Can anyone advise me on how to cope for the next while waiting for tests, scans etc ? I feel ill with worry.Lost my husband last year so fell so lonely and scared.Hoping someone can calm and advise me.

  • Hi Turi, welcome to the group from me. Sorry to hear the surgeon, couldn't remove everything he wanted to, although you are in good hands, and your team will do everything they can for you. It is very scary, and the waiting for tests and then the results is awful. When the results are in and you know what your treatment plan is, you will feel better, about it all. I'm sorry to hear about you losing your husband, we are all here to help, when you need it, Feel free to ask any questions, we will help you along the way, and hopefully by coming on here, might help you with your loneliness.

    Regards Ray.

  • Thanks Ray.I just joined the community today and just reading so many positive stories that people have shared has helped.

  • That's good. There are many of us on here who have, gone through the treatment with good results, I'm 51/2 years post treatment now, and there are many more the same, and longer. It's  doable, and you will be able do too.

  • Hi Turi take a deep breath. I was 61 when diagnosed almostv 5 years ago since treat finished. I had tonsil cancer with spread to soft palate snd anterior wall with 7 lymph nodes affected by time treatment started. It’s not east but it’s doable. Have they said what your HPV status is. HPV driven tumours respond slightly different to non HPV. I was HPV 16 postive.

  • Morning Turi

Although it's not a nice place to be, you'll find a lot of help and support on here when you need it.

Unfortunately the only thing i found to help me and all i  can suggest is to try to keep busy and distract yourself, It's easier said than done i know, but it does help. Best of luck with your results

Hoping your having a better day today

  • Hazel thanks for getting back to me.I can't tell you how much it means to me.My results haven't come back yet.I woke up from being in theatre with the surgeon telling me all the news. That was on 20/6 and yesterday I was phoned with cancellations and got a CT and MRI.Couldn't believe 10 days after op.What I find so hard to deal with is the fact I went to ENT and was told three times it was nothing to worry about.Last year the consultant said she could take out my tonsil but didn't want to as it was a nasty operation !! Maybe I'm just looking for someone to blame......Thank you for replying to me and I will keep you at the front of my mind through this.

You have the freedom to say as much or as little as you want. I also like the fact you don't have to put up your real name, your anonymous.

    Have a great day

    Hi

Im the same but if you get this cancer it’s amazing how much peer support means. There are lots of things your doctors don’t tell you and the treatment is awful but doable

  • Hi Turi Please try and not worry I know this is easier said than done . I am in a similar situation and my best piece of advice is to stay calm and positive. My oncologist said to me try not to  worry , Easy for him to say he is not the one with the cancer . Things are out of our control so just go with the flow and let the experts do their job. Worrying is like sitting in a rocking chair it will get you nowhere. We are all here for you so chin up . All the best Minmax
