Hey, I am Hayley or Hayz to my friends (but also Darkness Hayz). I am new here, got diagnosed with a rare cancer Epithelial-myoepithelial carcinoma on 08/06. I am going to have parts of it removed Thursday 15/06, and the parts they cant get to they are hoping to shrink them with chemotherapy and radiotherapy. I have had multiple scans (MRI and CT), blood work done, a biopsy. It’s all going too fast for me, from a suspected nasal polyp to EMC, it’s just going fast. I’ve still not accepted the diagnosis yet.
I saw my mum go through cancer before, and she had counselling with someone from MacMillan in 2003, but had such an awful experience, so she doesnt know I am reaching out here. Now I am worried how me going through cancer, will affect her, she’s already emotional. What help is out there for her, if anything to help her cope and come to terms with my diagnosis?
I’ll appreciate any help or advice given, from the bottom of my heart thank you.
But a lot of credit needs to go to my dog, shee kept sniffing my nose, over and over again, I got to the point I was fed up of her doing it (and you hear stories of animals picking something with their owners up) so saw the doctor, it all snow balled from there. I believe if it wasn’t for Fenti, I’d have been none the wiser, or would’ve been slower to react
Hi Hayz ....you are among friends here, virtual though they may be. Sorry to hear your predicament. It must have left you still spinning. Good for Fenti. Dogs are remarkable in picking things up. What sort of dog is she? I have always had Border Collies and am on my 4th.
For your Mum, who obviously has issues with Macmillan, could I suggest as he contacts the Swallows. https://theswallows.org.uk/
They are pretty good in supporting friends, carers and family as well as patients. They have a 24/7 helpline answered by a real person.
There is also Maggie's. Do you have one anywhere near you. You don't actually have to be a patient to chat with them.
Unfortunately there is little the NHS can offer these days
Stick with us. There is no question that somebody here can't answer or help with.
Best wishes
Dani

Thanks for the reply, Fenti is a bull dog
I will check out those links, I have never heard of Maggie’s but I will look into that. I just want help for my mum, but she has trust issues. I’ll try and talk to her about this again, nicely, as I tend to go in like a bull in a china shop. It’s also good that The Swallows can help support friends too. As I am worried about a few if them - especially the ones I am close too. I just want to make sure they and my family are supported.
I have never heard of Maggie’s
