Hello
I have just been diagnosed with recurrence stage 1 throat cancer I had it in 2009 when I had radiotherapy chemotherapy and a radical neck dissection
I never thought I would be back her again 14 years on so gutted is an understatement
Hi QueenB
Thats awful news. Much can be done though these days. There are trials with Pembrolizumab and cancer vaccines and some folk do well on them.
What’s the plan for you?

Hi Dani
I had a PET scan on Friday I will find out at my next appointment if I am eligible for Proton Therapy as opposed to radiation again as already had 33 sessions in 2009 the other option is robotic laser surgery but I am worried about this as significant risks with healing and they have also said they will remove my uvula which stops food from regurgitating down my nose
Ah, yes. I’ve heard proton can be used and used successfully. As for your uvula, you’re right it does help seal off the nasopharynx when you swallow but do ask about the repercussions as it used to be a surgical “cure” for snoring so it may not impact much. Mine was fried by radiation and is a mere stump.
Best of luck and let us know how you get on. Xx

Hi my uvula like Dani’s is not longer there it too was fried to a stump. I have no issues with food coming down my nose never had any issues. Ok I have to in occasion he’ll food go down with a drink but nit having the uvula hasn’t caused eating issues as such.
hooe thus helps. Yes ive also heard that Proton beam may be offered as we’ve had our lifetime share of radiotherapy in our throat areas. Hope you get a successful course of treatment. There’s lots of new things in the world of oral cancers happening at the minute.

Hi, I’ve been in the same situation, treatment 2014, then different tongue cancer last year which was surgically removed. 3 months ago I had laser surgery on a lesion in my throat. I could not believe it was happening to me again.
I hadn’t heard that about the uvula, don’t know if I’ve still got much of one, but food definitely comes down my nose, my swallow has got significantly worse since the last surgery. Proton therapy has never been mentioned as a possible treatment, maybe not available in my area. Best of luck with whatever treatment is decided on, it’s tough but doable!
Hi Peach
I am so sorry to hear what you have been through once is more than enough for anyone and the damage it causes never ends does it
I have an appointment on Monday afternoon to find out my fate this time
How was your initial recovery after laser treatment to remove legion? I have a stage 1 legion on the wall of my throat and a small wart at tip of uvula
thanks for sharing
