Hello all,I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed to say the least and was hoping someone could help me a little. My Husband was diagnosed with a nasal tumour 2 weeks this Thursday, last Thursday he had his biopsy and today his MRI scan,so everything has moved fast BUT he has had an appointment to go back and see his consultant on the 8th of June, this is four weeks after his biopsy,we were told he would be seen 3 weeks after his biopsy,we thought that was long enough but four feels like forever!! Is this normal?I have left a message for his secretary to call me to see if she can advise but I don’t hold out much hope.We have been told that it is highly likely to be cancerous and that it is a large and aggressive tumour. We are worried sick, the pain he is in is getting unbearable for him,he is barely eating and the pain relief doesn’t seem to be helping much.I feel absolutely useless.Any advice would be very welcome.

  • Hi Anxious. Sorry you’re in this fix

Do let both your GP and your Consultant know about the pain. There are pain killers that should help..
Biopsy results do take around two weeks or so. Then the panel of doctors meets to discuss a treatment plan which further increases the time you have to wait.
Waiting is really dreadful but rest assured things are moving g and it’s better to have accurate well planned treatment

    Best wishes.

  • Hi Dani, thank you for your reply and reassurance.Although his pain is still severe the Tramadol is easing it a little and allowing him to sleep a bit more.I did think it might be the case of the Drs sorting a treatment plan,I’m just trying to make sure I’m doing everything I can to find out because family and friends reactions make me feel like I’m not doing enough to get him seen quicker,I know I’m not the only anxious one, this is a really difficult time for us all.Roll on 3 weeks so we know what’s happening

take good care Dani and thanks again

    best wishes Anxious xx

  • Do try the GP. Tramadol is nowhere near as potent as the morphine I was on. I took Oramorph regularly in front of the pain and at one stage, when pain was waking me in the night, I was prescribed MST Continus which is long acting morphine. It was a real game changer and gave me back my sanity.

Please try to ignore family and friends. It sounds as if you are doing all you can. There are some really miserable reactions sometimes when cancer is concerned. This is your and your husbands fight. Concentrate on each other.

It might be helpful to call the Macmillan Support Line too. A friendly voice is often just what you need to ease the stress a little.

  • I would expect that, if the biopsy and scan point to something aggressive, that appointment will come forward, as soon as they have the results (possibly 1-2 weeks). But I know how horrid the wait is. Keep pestering the department/secretary for news of whether the results are back, and, as soon as they are, for that follow up appointment to explain the diagnosis to be brought forward. And if the consultant appointment can't be brought forward, but they have a diagnosis (or maybe even before) then ask for an appointment with a Cancer Nurse Specialist to advise on pain relief + link to dietitian. The key is the diagnosis, then everything else should fall into place. But I know my husband was in a lot of pain while waiting for his initial biopsy.
