Hi all.

9 weeks ago my husband had part of his jaw removed and replaced after having been diagnosed with jaw cancer. The op went well and appeared to be very successful. Today, he went to have a mask fitting ready to start his radio and chemotherapy treatment. Whilst there, the oncologist noticed one side of his neck and shoulder swollen and told him he thinks there has been a reoccurrence of the cancer!  He had a CT scan (planned) but wasn't given any details of when he would get results or how this would affect treatment. This is the only appointment I haven't gone in the room with him. He is absolutely devastated and I feel that I cannot support him without the facts. After trying for so long to remain.positive and keep him upbeat, I am at a complete loss,  perhaps due to the shock.  Just wondered if anyone out there has been through something similar and has any advice to share. It feels such a lonely place right now.

  • Hi Mrs Rough. That is devastating news. It's going to be a long wait  I'm afraid but I'm sure they will be on top of it. All is not lost if this is a recurrence. More surgery may be possible or the radiotherapy treatment field extended.  had a large cancerous lymph node that was dealt with by RT and I have a friend whose tonsil cancer recurred in a similar fashion and they are on an immunotherapy trial at the Marsden. You should get the Scan results by next week, but do call his CNS to see what's happening

    Best wishes

  • Hi as Dani says the waiting’s the worst part. Chemo radiotherapy worked for me and many others. My primary was in my tonsil i had 3  affected lymph nodes ti start but by time I’d my p e t  ct scsn I had 7 my lymph nodes were doing whatthey are designed ti do holding the cancer locally. This month I’m approaching 5 years since diagnosis. Ring his c n s ti see if they can give you any more information. Rant away on here we’re all happy to help. Kerp off Dr Google in the meantime.
