Hi had my radiotherapy I’m post this by 4 weeks still suffering lots secretions wonder how long this is likely to continue
Hi Tosca well done on completing treatment. I was a good 7 weeks before my mucus went. I did have carbusistine on prescription which helped to thin it. I also used a nebuliser regularly. My mucus was replaced by dry mouth which has a story all,of its own.

Hi I "spoke" to you elsewhere. I'm glad you popped in. I'll tag chris2012 and Kasvin who have both had laryngectomies and they will provably be able to help you. I had lots of mucous after radiotherapy but I suspect you might be suffering from secretions in your trachea which I can't help with. Hopefully they can
Meanwhile, have you looked at the Association of Laryngectomee Clubs?

Good evening Tosca, i shoud think you are now reaching the peak of having lots of mucus i normally say 3 months before everything settles down, im pleased you have ordered a nebulizer as Hazel suggested as they do help. A lot of it is because your swallowing or coughing is not as good so it builds up. During my radiotherapy i did not have much of a build-up my build-up was after my laryngectomy operation but because i was in the hospital they used a suction machine which was not very pleasant. I was prescribed mouthwash chlorhexidine gluconate which is better known as Corsodyl only its a bit cheaper, this also helped break the mucus down so helping the swallowing. Hopefully you should start to see gradual improvements. Wishing you all the best in your recovery, take care.
