Hi, this is the first time I have been on, prompted by where I am at and having an appointment today.
I was diagnosed with throat and neck cancer just before Christmas and since then I’ve had surgery of the throat and neck. I was diagnosed through a biopsy for a lump in my neck but was very blasé and not expecting it all. I even told my wife she didn’t need to come in with me as I thought I was being discharged but the doctor told me to get her…
Needless to say the following weeks were traumatic and all a bit of a blur. I worry how it’s affecting my son who is doing a levels.
I had 3 scans, MRI, CT and PET and all of them didn’t show up anything obvious. I then had the surgery and the follow up consultation. The surgery removed the lump and I have been recovering and back at work albeit tired, still not enjoying food and up and down emotionally.
I have been told they didn’t find the primary. They have said it will be up to me to decide whether to do radiotherapy or not, which has left me a bit confused and not knowing what to do. I will go today and ask my questions.
Good to find this community, wish I’d done it sooner actually.
Hi Westernsky and welcome, but sorry to see you here.
One of our members, Peter, has b been living with an unfound primary. PFJTHS . Have look at his bio which you can read by clicking on his name. His is a similar trajectory. He is in "watch and Wait" and has been fro a few years. I hope he pops on before your appointment.
W&W involves frequent regular appointments to check for any abnormalities but then you do avoid radiotherapy.
For now, what I suggest is that they explain "it's up to you" really properly, the ramifications of RT and W&W. Asking what they themselves would decide for both themselves and a child of theirs is a good start to the conversation.
Best of luck and let us know how you get on
