Hi

Just had the news I was expecting...busy month ahead, assessments etc.

Trying to look for positives concerning treatment challenges ahead...any advice would be gratefully appreciated...treatment will be in Dundee.

  • Hi Peter,

I have just had the all clear from the same diagnosis. I have updated my thread in here with full details but feel free to message me if you want to discuss anything. It was tough but bearable - looked at in total it is overwhelming but it is all bearable taken day by day, week by week. you can do this Slight smile

    Hi Siko

    Thanks for the positive reply....

Loads of questions to ask of the team that will be structuring my treatment plan.

Exercise is one of my prime concerns for both physical and  other health wellbeing...used to enjoy walking, cycling and golf ...now curtailed due to arthritis and heart disease....but would like to think that I could still participate in these to some degree....

Will I have the energy during cancer treatment?

  • HI Peter, I don't know about your other health issues relating to heart disease and arthritis and only a Doctor can answer that. My personal opinion is that exercise was incredibly important for my mental wellbeing and even though I only got out for a brief dog walk everyday, I found it refreshed my mind and kept me positive. I would speak to your doctors and get their thoughts but I certainly had the energy during my treatment, even if I was more fatigued than normal.

  • Hi Peter, you have got a busy month ahead of you, however once you get your treatment plan, and start your treatment you will feel a lot better about things. The treatment is challenging, but it is doable, and many of us on here have done it, and so will you be able to. We are all here to help each other, so if you have any questions or worries, just ask away.

    Regards Ray.

Hi Peter and welcome. Exercise is important though you will be tired. I was pretty washed out by the end but still managed a turn round the fields with my dog.
Ask if your hospital has a Prehab scheme. It’s worth getting mind and body in good condition

  • Hi Peter. I’m Hazel just approaching five years for tonsil cancer T2M 2NM. I was treated at Leeds Cancer Centre, but a guy that I met along the way through one of the forums.  Was also at nine Wells in Dundee and he has nothing, but praise for the hospital.I flew to Spain week 8 recivery and gently rode my bike. I’m now back up to 75 km biking when we’re over in spsin. During treatment I managed a small walk every day even if onky round the garden on the bad days. I got back out on the hills within a year. Treatment is hard but we do get excellent results. I was 61 when diagnosed my blig beliw might help.

    Thanks Hazel...

You seem to have made good recovery.

We were supposed to be going to Canaries for a couple of weeks before this blew things out of the water...hopefully we will manage to have a wee break later on....my insurance took a hike after Colon Cancer episode...I suppose this will hike it up further?

    Peter.

  • Hi Peter sadly yes but I manage to get long stay insurance on an annual policy . If you’re looking for usual holiday lengths 2-3 weeks you’ll be ok. I personally use staysure as I pay extra and can do 2 long stays as I’m under 70.
travel with is also competitive. Yes I’m happily living my life a few tweaks but nothing to stop me.

Most of us do, Peter so hold onto that. By six months most of us are pretty good though we can expect most improvements up to two years and a little more fine tuning after that.
Four years on there’s nothing apart from a vindaloo that I can’t eat. Mind you I couldn’t before.

It did take me three years to be able to whistle.

    Thanks Ray

I'm grateful that so many on here have such a positive attitude and are available to help with concerns.

Used to be a biker myself...miss the little rascals.
