I just joined the group a few minutes ago, I’m looking forward to it. I have Mouth and Throat cancer and I am palliative. I was originally mis diagnosed by a dentist, of all people.  I’m a little raw about that and have lodged a complaint against him through the provincial regulatory body in charge of dentists. There were no screening questions when I told him what my concerns were, he just said my teeth were too sharp and shaved a few molars down. Found myself in a coma in the hospital just a few months later with stage 4. I’m only looking to save other people from the same incompetence. I live in Canada. That’s my intro, feel free to hit me back.

  • Hi livingthedream I can only give you a hug!
I lost a forum friend here two years ago with exactly the same scenario. I keep bees and her husband has had honey regularly from me since then so we keep in touch.
I have another friend happily still here after surgery with a similar story. She has visited her dentist since, not to issue litigation but to make sure he is having proper CPD for the practice. She said it took a lot of courage.
Im sure the more newly qualified are up to spec but some of the older ones certainly aren’t.
Stay with us and rant away. We will listen

    more  hugs

  • Hello and welcome Livingthedream,

My tonsil cancer was missed by both the dentist and the first paramedic nurse I went to see. A couple of months later a different nurse alerted the doctor about a swollen lymph node, it was all systems go after that and I was soon treated for T4 N1 M0  tonsil tumour spread to the tongue.

One thing I have learnt is that every case is different, some head and neck cancers can grow very rapidly without even many symptoms. I am so sorry to hear your concerns weren’t taken seriously - as you say, if this helps someone to insist on being taken seriously if they have concerns it will be very helpful for the future.
It’s great to hear from you, and best wishes,

    Laura.
