Hi everyone only just joined so my husband was diagnosed last April with oropharyngeal cancer, surgery wasn’t an option so he has a PEG fitted and had chemo then chemo radiation now treatment has ended and he has had his post treatment scan and will get results at end of month is there any form of counselling that he/we can have as in addition to the diagnosis his father passed away from lung cancer on the day of his first chemo session so he is dealing with more than the cancer also he struggles to speak for any length of time he is planning on joining the group too any advice welcome thank you
Hi Jules
Welcome to the forum Wishing your husband all the best with his recovery and scan results. I have struggles with speech, so communicating this way I find really good. It would be good for him to join so he can ask for advice and the people here will try and answer and help and give good tips with their experiences to share.
Best wishes
Nicky

Hi Jules welcome from me as well. I too had chemo radiotherapy. It’s the gold standard treatment for most orophrangheal cancers so nothing unusual there. I’m over 4.5 years post treatment happily living my life. As others have said MacMillan do offer free counselling service. It’s not uncommon either for head and neck cancer patients to have a mild course of anti depressant s maybe see gp or ask consultant.Get him to join we’re a friendly bunch who will always try to help.
