Hey,

My husband has 8 sessions of radiology left which will make it a total of 33! What a year we have had. Just wondering if anyone else has gone through similar, he is coping well and still working etc .. skin starting to look sore and he is struggling to eat now hoping it doesn’t get much worse.

  • Hello. I had 30x radio & 6x chemo for tonsil & lymph node cancer - hpv 16 positive. I had a PEG fitted prior to treatment & used it from week 4 as I could no longer eat at that point. Your husband is doing well to still be working. Feel free to ask anything, the community is great for advice & support. I was given Epimax cream to apply before & after each treatment to protect my skin.

Six or seven weeks of RT is the gold standard. Some of us get chemo too.
I’m nearly four years clear of treatment and living a good life

Hes doing brilliantly to be working. What sort of cancer did he have?

  • Hi - I had 30 x Radiotherapy and 2 x Chemo. (Base of Tongue Cancer HPV). Great that Your husband is keeping going! Yes My neck started to peel and be very sore about 8 sessions from the end. Use moisturising cream (The hospital gave me some , but I used Nivea moisturiser for men). Be gentle when washing or showering. It's not sore now which is good. There is a chance it may get more difficult to eat, but your MDT will help with that, also you may find that he gets more fatigued after the treatment stops. Best advice is to ensure he gets enough calories and listens to what his body needs in terms of rest (Don't overdo it). The radiotherapy takes a lot out of you - believe me. All the best for your husband -  Stay Strong together ! Cheers Steve

  • Thank you.

Hiw long after your last radiology session did you start to begin feeling a bit better? Did you have to use a stomach peg? My husband hasn’t  used his yet.  He is still working, ferrying kids around etc! I think keeping busy is helping him. Starting to take its toll a bit now though I think!

  • My husband had mouth cancer, had over half tongue removed and reconstructed from his thigh. He is fighting hard, hoping next year will be a better one!

  • I have had similar op and about to start RT/Chemo to mop the nasty cells up left in the neck (also had a dissection). He is doing really well by the sounds of it, pass on regards and best wishes.

  • Hello

My husband had mouth cancer. He had a big operation in August to remove over half his tongue and reconstruct it, plus the floor of his mouth reconstructed. They were unsure if his tongue would work again but thank god it did! Very stressful, traumatic year.
    He is fighting hard.

  • Thank you. I know it will all be worth it! Wishing you all the best with your treatment.

  • Just keep an eye in him as the treatment does take its toll  and when it hits its like hitting the wall in a marathon. You can’t stop it its a case of listening to your body. The more you fight the harder it is .

if we can help just shout out.
