Hello All,
I had a mouth biopsy nearly two weeks ago.
Suspected Lichen Planus, but finding the wait v.hard.
Apparently the wait is 8-10 weeks to hear back.
Lots more sores spots and blisters keep popping up.
Not sure what else to say, just I am worrying!
Thank you.
should I ask for more steroid mouth wash while waiting?

What does your doctor suggest?
Why is the wait so long? It’s dreadful, feel so sorry for you.

Hi Lisa
It is definitely nail biting waiting for results, sorry to hear that you are in that position. If you can keep as busy as possible it might help take your mind of things although unfortunately it does always creep back in.
I hope the results show no lichen planus and you can get on with your life but in the worst scenario you have got on top of things early and this is always good and things can then be managed.
In relation to the possibility of it being lichen planus. It is fairly rare for lichen planus to become cancerous so hold onto that thought although it does occasionally happen.
I had lichen planus from my mid 40’s and it did flare up from time to time making my mouth quite sore.I used a steroid ointment called Kenalog and this helped to settle the inflammation down. Unfortunately the lichen planus did eventually result in squamous cell cancer when I was 59 but as I said this is a fairly rare thing to happen. I was just unlucky.
The good news is that I am now 69 and still rocking on living a good life. My surgeon is fantastic and is ever vigilant and manages the results of the lichen planus as needed and I am ever grateful.
I have my fingers crossed for you that everything will turn out well.
Lyn

Thank you for reaching out Dani. How are you doing today?
It triggered me into phoning up the oral unit at the hospital. I was referred via my dentist, and my Dr referred me back to hospital when I tried talking to her about it.
So this left me with 10 weeks of wondering what to do and my friend Google.
So I popped in, they checked it again and suggested Cordasl mouthwash. So using that now, together with trying to focus on healthy living, no booze, cut down on coffee, lots of herbals teas, walks and prioritizing sleeping.
I think the biggest worry, is the what if it is the alternative to LP and they have put me on the slow track. Nothing I can do though..
Hi Lyn,
Really good to get your message, thank you.
My biggest worry is whether it is cancer, but I have been put on the slow track to receive my results. I am a worrier!
I am sorry to hear that it progressed on to cancer. But very good to hear that you have a good surgeon who is keeping a good eye on you.
I feel positive hearing your story, thank you for responding.
Best wishes, Lisa
Hi Missmedusa.
Sorry to hear that you are on a 2 week wait. I hope you recover from biospy ok and managed some relaxation before you hear back.
️
That feels like a long while to wait. I had similar for a PET scan as a followup for treatment. The waiting sucks. Try ringing your CNS or consultant's secretary to see if you can get an answer over the phone to ease the stress.
Thanks Peter, How are you doing?
Prompted by Dani's question, I called the hospital and managed to pop in and see an Oral Dr.
She said to not to worry, as I had been put on long wait then my risk would be low.
The what if is still in my mind, and it being a long wait. I will keep doing the rights things and monitoring what is going on. Then pop in again if something hangs around too long in my mouth, rather than healing.
Not quite sure how cancer versus Lichen Planus looks in the mouth. Google shows pictures that look the same .
And relax ♀️♂️.
Best wishes, Lisa
