Treatment and Industrial Action

Hello all.

I am due to start radiotherapy, with supporting chemotherapy, for HPV tonsil cancer in about 4 weeks. Does anybody know how the upcoming industrial action by nurses will affect my (our) treatment?

  • It is too early to say and the strike ballot in England is on a per hospital basis.  Some hospitals will not have met the ballot criteria for a strike and thus will operate as normal.  I know my local one has.  I think nurses and managers in the hospitals will be working hard over the next few days to figure out what options they have to ensure patient safety.  Maybe in the next week or so things will become clearer.

  • Hi Can only  echo what Peter has said my hospital trust mid Yorkshire are working as they didn’t meet the ballot numbers. But Leeds cancer centre trust did m I was told if treatment had started nothing would  stop it .from what I’ve gathered it’s one day strikes not a  continual one so radiotherapy stops  over weekends  anyway so hopefully there won’t be a major breakdown in treatment. The extra day s will be tagged on at the end. Don’t stress about it you’ve enough on your plate it will get sorted.

  • Like the others have said...it's impossible to say. You can't believe most of the alarmist stories in the media. Peter used to be in the thick of it in the NHS so he is best placed to comment. It's wait and see unfortunately
