Greetings all. 59 days ago, at a routine dental cleaning, my suspicious tumor was seen.  Biopsy reported squamous cell carcinoma, HPV negative.  My 3rd grandchild was born Sept 27.  Diagnosis was Sept 28. I’m now 5 days post op from wide excision and neck dissection.  One margin  was not clear, four were okay. .  Still waiting for additional pathology reports.  There is SO much to get my head wrapped around and, probably typically, I go from “I’ve got this” to being beyond scared at warp speed  I’m here to learn, support, and receive support as well.  Thank you!

  • Hi Pedalpoint and welcome. Sorry to have found you here but stick around. There's lots of help and support here.

    Has Chemoradiation been mentioned?

That's the gold standard where there is still cancer or even where the margins are clear but the oncologists just want to be sure.

I avoided chemo but had six weeks of RT finishing a couple of weeks after my 68th birthday. Nearly four years on I'm fit and well and enjoying life.

    RT is tough but doable

    Best wishes

As Dani says chemo radiation is the tried and tested good standard pathway.

  • Thanks for sharing!  Additional treatment options will be discussed when pathology report comes back.  For now, I wait and pray.

  • Thx, also.  Hearing from others who have traveled this path is so important for me.  And I’m anxious to meet this newest grandchild.  It’s powerful motivation.
