I was diagnosed with tonsil cancer in May, the cancer is HPV strain and was only on the left tonsil but had started to grow into the muscle. Treatment was 3 rounds of Cisplatin and 35 days of radiation. I finished radiation 8 weeks ago and am still struggling with some mouth sores on left side of tongue. Dr. looked at it two weeks ago and didn't seem worried. I am unable to eat and dehydrated. I've lost over 50 lbs. I am freaking out because it still hasn't healed thinking that the cancer has spread to my tongue. Any advice??
Hi Mec. I m 4 years post radiotherapy for tonsil cancer with several affected lymph nodes. Trust the treatment it’s extremely rare for it not too work. As fir eating do you have an hospital dietician assigned to you ? Mine was always on my case. Have you a feeding tube if so please use it. Mouth ulcers are common I was plagued with them constantly. I used gelclair which was prescribed by hospital then g p. As fir eating i gif very little pleasure it was a case if eat to live not live to eat. My blog below might help with your recovery. The mantra food is fuel was important to me it’s a case of calories no matter how difficult it was. Some days took me 30 minutes to sip an ensure drink. The treatment is brutal and recovery is a marathon not a sprint tsje it one day at a time. .

Hi mec and welcome to the community
Dr. looked at it two weeks ago and didn't seem worried.
That's because what he is seeing is n normal radiation damage and will take weeks to heal. It's not a normal ulcer after all.
It sounds like you don't have enough pain relief so I'd have a chat with your CNS to see what can be done and take Hazel's advice and at least get your Ensures or Fortisips down while you play with soft food
Best wishes
