Hi there,
I hope all you folk are doing ok or as well as can be expected. Late 40’s male.
Don’t feel like writing a whole load of stuff about me as the last 3 months, all I have done via text/email/conversation is talk about my sh1**y situation but guess I will.
This July, lumps in neck. They’d been there a few months but no sinister symptoms. Decided to get checked out after testing positive for covid as lumps became slightly sensitive. This feeling disappeared 7 days later.
Bloods, urine, and chest X-ray all clear. U/sound showed possible lymphoma. Further FNA biopsy led to a diagnosis of metastatic carcinoma of lymph node, primary suspected saliva gland in August… my world collapsed. Totally healthy, strong in the gym, cycle hard and absolutely no sinister cancer related symptoms. No change in anything physical or mental with me.
Was told of a surgery, radiotherapy, maybe some chemo and all would be well. Was told I wouldn’t die and that I’d be ok. Felt settled.
3 weeks later, brain mets diagnosed. Heartbroken and devastated me and my family.
I’m now on hormone Rx. Start my cyber knife Rx tomorrow at The Royal Marsden. 90 minute session. Then a 45 minute session on Tuesday and again on Wednesday. That’s the initial 3 sessions.
Not worried about the Rx itself, more worried that it won’t do anything. Struggled so hard to remain positive. My parents and brothers have been amazing. Single and no children. Really hard trying to cope when you’re single.
It’s been unbelievably hard to process and I’m still trying to.
A naff intro but it’s my current situation. Here’s hoping the radiosurgery I have at the Marsden, this week, really smashes the sh1* out of these lesions.
17/10 - I’ve just decided to edit some of this post from yesterday. Was an incredibly emotional day yesterday and just went bleurrgghh.

Hi B and welcome to the community
Thats a really horrid story.
Many of us here were fit and well when our diagnosis poleaxed us. It came out of nowhere.
I can say though that The Marsden is a real centre of excellence so you are in good hands and it’s a real shame your consultant lacks empathy from what you say
You say you are in hormone treatment. Is your cancer HER2 positive? I have a friend who is the same but a different cancer and she has a good prognosis. I know brain mets are a different thing so please forgive me if I’m talking rubbish.
Im wishing you all the very best for tomorrow. Stay in touch if you can and let us know how you get on.
