Hi my husband starts his rt treatment on 24th he as had 2 lots of chemo and got 2 more to do .so far it as reduced his tumour from 8cm to about 3 so that's good .he can eat again now .

He's been ok on chemo but not looking forward to the rt treatment. How mad is it ?

  • Hi Twad. It’s not a walk in the park. Nothing much happens for two weeks  but it becomes pretty painful by week 4 but for most people the pain seems to plateau. It’s manageable with decent analgesia. Your husband will find it difficult to eat if not impossible so if he is offered a feeding tube he should take it.
If I at 68 could do it anybody can. I’m three plus years clear and living  perfectly normally.
There will be questions along the road so please ask away

  • HI Twad

It appears from the replies that it is different for a lot of people.

It was 3 years ago i had my treatment

For Me, Mine was similar in size but under my tongue and entrance to throat they said it was in the group of the biggest you can get. They gave me 6 weeks of Radiography (Laser Treatment) the strongest that my throat could take. and chemo. It damaged the inside of my throat very badly and said it will take around 3 to 5 years for it to repair itself. For some reason it has caused me no pain which i did find it confusing as to me if so badly burnt why no pain. But very happy that it did not. they will probably give you a post radiography cream for his neck and very important to use it. I heal very well and 4 weeks ago saw my specialist who is brilliant and funny he put a camera down inside my throat and was very pleased at the healing then said it was solid oak inside and banged the table to the show me what is was like and expects it to have healed itself in the next 2 years. The only problem i had with it and did not expect was the secretion lots of it at 1st but now down to a small amount each day. So basically, do not worry about the radiography as for me my only problem was the time as it is a 3 hour round trip each day to the hospital

  • Ours will be a 2 hour trip each day to. His is at the base of the tongue and in both sides of his neck. They did say about the cream so will definitely use it .glad your getting better .
