  • Hello!

I've just been diagnosed with Cancer in my neck after various scans, biopsies, Tonsillectomy, etc. It's taken around four months from my initial GP appointment.

  • Not sure of the specifics just yet, but I've now been referred for a PET scan by the Consultant so should get more details once he's seen the PET results.

I'm surprisingly ok. My attitude is positive but realistic (I think!). Obviously not looking forward to what's ahead, but needs must.

So far the hardest thing for me is seeing the effect the news is having on friends and family.

I work for NHS Wales, and I'm a volunteer RNLI ILB crewman. This diagnosis means I will have to stand down from seagoing duties in the very near future, which is a major blow. Apparently worse things Joyhappen at sea, but not to me for much longer if I can't go afloat! Joy

    Cheers all,

    TimR

  • Hi Tim. Welcome to the Community. You are in that no man’s land in between diagnosis and treatment. It’s a difficult place to be but I can see from your post you are a positive man and that will stand you in good stead. Try not to worry about your family. I know how you feel. All of us go through that but just step back and turn the tables and you’ll see your worry is misplaced. This is your time and you need to concentrate on yourself

Things will be different when you have a treatment plan

I’m a three plus years survivor of base of tongue cancer and I’m living a good life. Treatment is but a distant memory

Best wishes and stay with us?

  • Hi Dani,

Wise words indeed. Thank you. I'll definitely check out the post below.

Humour tends to be my go too coping strategy. It will definitely be better having all the information and a plan of action. Fear of the unknown and all that!h

Really good to hear you're over three years on and enjoying life.

    Tim.
